From Worst to First: The Dolphins Create NFL History
Share on Facebook
Wake up Dol-Fans! It’s the Monday after Week 17 of the NFL season. Yes, everybody, we finally have reason to celebrate—our Dolphins are going to the playoffs, and what’s more they won the AFC Eastern Division for the first time since the turn of the millennium. This Monday usually marks the first day of draft season for Dolphins fans. Well the draft hype is on hold this year for at least another week.
The Miami Dolphins have just completed the biggest turn around by any team from one year to another in NFL history. 1-15 to 11-5. No team has gone from one win to double-digit wins, no team has gone from one win to the playoffs, and only one other team, the 1999 Indianapolis Colts, have had a 10 game turn around (3-13 to 13-3). Your Miami Dolphins have done the unthinkable.
Chad Pennington, the former Jets quarterback thrown in the trash heap for a washed up Brett Favre, soars back into Jet-land and wins the AFC East and in the process eliminates the high-spending New York Pesty Jets from, well everything.
Tony Sparano, a guy who could not escape the shadow of VP of Football Operations Czar Bill Parcells during training camp is on the verge of winning Coach of the Year in his first season as an NFL Head Coach.
Looking Ahead
The Miami Dolphins will play the Baltimore Ravens at home for the second time this season next Sunday at 1:00pm eastern on CBS. The Ravens won the first matchup 27-13. However, Miami was without nose tackle Jason Ferguson for most of the game due to injury and also without backup Paul Soliai who had been suspended for the game by team management. The Ravens thus controlled the clock and ran the ball with ease. Chad Pennington made one of his few mistakes all season when he threw an interception which linebacker Terrell Suggs returned for a touchdown.
The Dolphins will be a lot more competitive in this game, having won nine of the ten games since then, and are relatively healthy at key positions.
You may purchase tickets to this game starting at 9:00am today (Monday, December 29, 2008). This is an excerpt from the team’s official website:
