Miami Dolphins a Class-A Organization, but a Bad Team
This is a bad team, period. Daunte Culpepper wouldn’t make a difference if he were still here either. Yes, I said it. He’d still be getting sacked 5 times a game and fumbling all over the place. Oakland’s offensive line is very good and the Miami Dolphins defensive line was clearly outmatched. Culpepper won’t have that much success for the rest of the season.
Having said this is a bad team, that’s completely separate from the fact that this is a Class-A organization. Every year, the Miami Dolphins host a “Web Weekend” for sites like this one in order to better their relationship with us, and mainly with the fans. We provide the main portal to the Miami Dolphins fans through these fan sites, so it is us who they have focused in on. Unfortunately they haven’t been getting much backup from the team’s play in recent years. And now it seems like they’ve hit rock bottom.
Perhaps that’s a good thing? The Miami Dolphins can only go up from here, right? Whatever “up” means. The Phins might go up, but it doesn’t necessarily mean winning. This team has an excellent chance of not winning a game this season. Just look at their schedule. “Easy” games at Houston, and at Cleveland when the schedule was released have suddenly turned into challenging ones.
The Dolphins have a long way to go. The defense gave up 299 yards on the ground yesterday, most of which was gained by backup no-name Justin Fargas. Zach Thomas and Yeremiah Bell were out, which hurts a lot, but Vonnie Holliday and Channing Crowder didn’t play for most of the game either. The Raiders had a field day against our backups.
However, when you leave the Dolphins weight room at their Training Facility, above the door, in bold letter is pasted: “NO EXCUSES.” There are no excuses for an NFL team who gives up nearly 300 yards on the ground. If one player goes down, that’s another player’s chance to step up and make some plays. Trent Edwards, rookie QB for the Buffalo Bills was forced to start against the Jets yesterday and went 22/28 and led the Bills to their first victory of the season. Justin Fargas stepped in for an injured Lamont Jordan and rushed for 173 yards in mainly 1 half. In the NFL, you have to step it up.
Retired Miami Dolphins’ linebacker John Offerdahl spoke to the Miami Dolphins fansites on Saturday night and said that he didn’t understand how a guy who’s 85% healthy should be playing when his backup has probably 98% of his ability. This is clearly not the case in Miami, and that’s one thing that needs to be corrected next off season.
Rookie Head Coach Cam Cameron also spoke to the fansites on Saturday night before the game and explained that the Dolphins had had one of the best weeks of preparation he has seen. Obviously, the Raiders prepared better with their rookie Head Coach Lane Kiffin, who is only 31 and is also brand new to the NFL.
The fact is that the Dolphins are still trying to clean up Dave Wannstedt’s mess. Jimmy Johnson left the Phins with a #1 caliber defense, and Wannstedt did nothing with them, and just made the offense worse. Nick Saban failed, and now it’s Cam Cameron’s turn, but it looks like it’s finally too late for this defense.
Looking forward to the number one pick in next year’s draft…
