Dave Wannstedt and the rest of the Dolphins' coaching staff made the final roster cuts Sunday. Going into this process, Wannstedt knew it would be a tough process, and thus there were some surprises. Among the most notable waived were running back Robert Edwards and cornerback Korey Banks who had such a great game against New Orleans which included a sack and interception.
The team apparently unsuccessfully tried to trade Robert Edwards earlier today. Based upon previous reports, the New Orleans Saints was among those interested in picking up Edwards.
Robert Edwards joined the team last year and played his first football since the 1998 season when he played for the Patriots and was a former first round pick of their's. He was out of football for 3 years because of an offseason tear to about a million of his leg ligaments. Miraculously, he was able to fully recover and fill the Dolphins backup running back roll last season. Now, this season that job will be up to Leonard Henry and Travis Minor.
Oronde Gadsden was placed on injured reserve today which means he is still with the team, but cannot play.
Here is a list of all of those waived today:
C Troy Andrew 2
CB Korey Banks R
S Yeremiah Bell R
WR Ron Bellamy R
RB Robert Edwards 5
LB Bam Hardmon (waived-injured) R
T Greg Jerman 2
CB Omare Lowe 2
WR Kendall Newson 1
T Tim Provost R
CB Alphonso Roundtree 1
LB Justin Seaverns 2
DT Johnny Thomas R
The Dolphins will have the chance to sign five players to the practice squad starting at 12:00 PM tomorrow.
