It looks as though the Dolphins are going to get back the late-round pick that they dealt to the Jaguars this week for defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, as they’ve traded center Samson Satele to the Raiders for an undisclosed draft pick, according to an NFL source.
Satele has been rumored to be on the trading block since Miami signed free agent centers Jake Grove and Joe Berger this offseason. During some series' late in the season the Dolphins shifted the 6-foot-3, 295-pound Satele to right guard as Al Johnson took over at center. Johnson has since departed, but the 6-4, 300-pound Grove, who received a five-year deal worth $29 million, is expected to be the starter.
The trade is contingent on Satele passing a physical.
Satele, a second-round pick (60th) in 2007 acquired in the trade of receiver Wes Welker to the Patriots, has started from day one, but the new regime wasn't happy with the thrust up the middle as the former Hawaii standout was often overpowered by some of the AFC East's massive nose tackles, particularly Jets defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and Patriots’ nose Vince Wilfork.
The Dolphins have nine picks again for next month’s draft.
Anyone surprised or bothered by the move?

This isn't official yet, but Fialkov is putting his credibility on the line by reporting it, so he must have some solid information. I wonder what the Raiders gave us for it. Hopefully a 3rd or 4th rounder.
Jeff Darlington is also reporting this for the Miami Herald: http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/football/miami-dolphins/story/962983.html
The trade was first reported by The Miami Herald and confirmed Monday morning by representatives for both players. Miami will receive a sixth-round pick from Oakland and the two sides will swap selections in an undisclosed round, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com's Bill Williamson.

I hope the swap also benefits us. So basically we upgraded one of our 7th rounders to a 6th rounder and swapped Satele for that DT from Jacksonville. Great deal for us I say!

Sounds good becasue 1) we have a much larger and experienced center and 2) we moved up in the draft as a result of this move.
Those guys in the office know what they are doing.

Yeah, they are keeping the big picture in mind.
• Notes: Ireland confirmed that the Dolphins received a sixth-round NFL Draft pick from the Oakland Raiders in exchange for center Samson Satele and also swapped fourth-round picks as part of the deal. Miami's pick in that fourth round improves 18 spots. . . . The Dolphins were awarded no compensatory draft picks Monday, but AFC East rival New England was awarded three -- a third-rounder, a fifth-rounder and a sixth-rounder. No other division team was awarded a pick.
This was in the bottom of an article about Henne and Pennington.
Very good sequence of events in my opinion. I wonder who we'll grab in the 4th round now compared to who the Raiders will grab.

Why was NE awarded three compensatory draft picks?
I'm not sure, usually compensatory draft picks are awarded based on who you lost to free agency the year before. Who did they lose?
Donte Stallworth and Asante Samuel off the top of my head...

So Randy Mueller basically traded Wes Welker for a 6th Round pick. Hmmmmm........... That's one he won't want to be reminded about. (By the way I am now officially back with internet after moving house. My apologies for my forced absence)
